Girls tennis stays hot

The Pioneers' girls tennis team made it five straight Monday with a 5-0 sweep at North Reading. Paige Martino defeated Althea Bradley at first singles, 6-0, 6-2. In the second singles match, Lily Alves also won in straight sets, defeating Matilda Ton, 6-3, 6-3. The Pioneers defeated North Reading to earn its sixth win of the season to stay undefeated. First singles Shea McCarthy took down Parker Lee 6-1, 6-1. Lynnfield softball team wins opener in marathon

LYNNFIELD — Sometimes, you have to find a way to win the ugly ones. That's exactly what the Lynnfield Pioneers did last Wednesday against visiting Newburyport, overcoming a 5-3 early deficit and handing the Clippers a 16-6 loss in a game that took more than three hours.
