Lynnfield’s girls basketball team (0-1) dropped its home opener against Newburyport Friday night. In a close 38-34 final, Pioneers’ coach Sue Breen called it “a very intense and hard-fought game.”
Chloe Grieves finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds alongside four steals. Hayden Valiton also notched a double-double of 11 points and 15 boards.
“We have to do a better job on offense,” Breen said. “Our defense was disruptive and led to some steals, but Newburyport’s defense was also smothering.”
