In an early-season dandy, Lynnfield’s boys soccer team (1-0) took down Cape Ann League foe Newburyport, 2-1, on the road last Tuesday, Sept. 2.
“They outplayed us for most of the first half,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “In the second half, we played a little better.”
Newburyport struck first to put the pressure on, but Rocca Scenna (penalty- and free-kick goals) potted a clutch pair for the Pioneers.
“Our goalie (Dino Gesamondo) and defense played very well,” Munroe said. “I thought Newburyport played very, very well. They’re a good team and we’re fortunate.”
