The Lynnfield football team (1-5) couldn’t defend Pioneer Stadium against Newburyport Friday night. The Clippers put on a show en route to a 29-19 win in Cape Ann League action.
Joe Rosa impressed with a 30-yard pick-six for the Pioneers, while Chase Buoniconti (6 carries, 37 yards) compiled two rushing touchdowns. Matt Tracy was 12-of-20 with 137 yards passing and Luke DiSilvio caught seven passes for 68 yards.
Lynnfield held an advantage in first downs (14-8), completions (12-5), passing yards (137-52), and interceptions (2-1), but Newburyport totaled 261 yards of offense.
The Pioneers host Manchester-Essex this Friday at 6 p.m.

Maxwell Parent got things started with a 40-yard rushing touchdown and it was a breeze from there for St. John’s Prep, which scored all of its points through three quarters. Another highlight came through a trick play, with Parent tossing a touchdown pass to Anthony Sanderson to put the Eagles ahead, 16-0, in the opening quarter.

Just six minutes into this Cape Ann League tilt, senior defender Ryan Giacobbi scored his first varsity goal to lead Lynnfield past North Reading. Keeper Dino Gesamondo “played very well,” according to coach Brent Munroe.
“They’re in first place and we’re in second, so it was a meaningful game,” Munroe said. “It was a big moment for him and a huge win for us.”

The Lynnfield (11-2-2) and Danvers (8-5-2) girls soccer teams delivered a 3-3 tie Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium. Danvers punched its state-tournament ticket for the 34th consecutive season.
Lynnfield’s Alex Schmidt scored the first goal of the game just two minutes into the action. Giada Antidormi and Bella Clancy also found the back of the net for the hosts.
With the Falcons trailing by a goal late, freshman Rylee Sullivan completed her hat-trick and scored with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Danvers coach Jimmy Hinchion added Lily Delafano, Addi McCarty, and DeAnna Figueiredo played “terrific games.”

Lynnfield (11-2) jumped all over Rockport in enemy territory. Ava Damiani and Antidormi tucked two goals apiece, while Kathleen Brown and Ella Pascucci also found the back of the net. Defender Sarah Mitchell secured her first varsity point with a “really nice” assist, according to coach Mark Vermont.
“To say it was windy would be an understatement,” Vermont said. “It was a good win.”

Lynnfield allowed a goal just two minutes into the game, but responded in the 18th minute when Antidormi scored off an assist from Damiani.
“We knew it was going to be a battle from the beginning,” Vermont said. “Our defense played pretty well and it was a good soccer game. Everybody put in a good shift.”

A “battle of the defense and great game,” according to Lynnfield coach Kerri Doherty, finished scoreless through a back-and-forth showdown. Bridget McGee (7 saves) secured her sixth shutout of the season and faced six penalty corners. Pioneers Nola Maney, Chloe Bergeron, Addie Wolf, and Hayden Valiton played well defensively.

Lynnfield upped its record to 11-1-2 behind a pair of goals from Cameron Munion. Izzy Fiorentino scored and dished out two assists, Sophie Morgese scored, Lauren Mattia delivered two assists, and McGee recorded her fifth shutout of the fall.
CROSS COUNTRY
Lynnfield’s boys cross country team traveled to face Hamilton-Wenham, but fell in a 15-49 final. Although the Pioneers ended up on the losing side, there were several strong performances, according to coach William Wallace. Nick Degennaro led the way for Lynnfield, finishing seventh overall with a time of 17:19. Right behind Degennaro were Rowan Bayer (17:43) and Jason Tran (17:48) – eighth and ninth, respectively. Nathan Malenfant (18:23) and Ritvik Mahajan (18:35) rounded out the top 12. The boys finished the season with a 2-3 record.
The girls team had to fight through adversity, missing three of their top seven runners due to injury and illness. The Lady Pioneers came up short, 18-40, against Hamilton-Wenham. Abby Lopez led the way with a time of 18:17, which was good for third overall. Maeve Wertz (22:17), Shea Moore (22:33), Lilly Williams (24:16), and Afsana Rabbani (25:52) all placed in the top 12.
