Talk about Lynnfield leadership. Boys soccer captains Mohammed Ayari, Rocco Scenna (2 goals), and Nate Zalvan all found the back of the net in the Pioneers’ 5-1 win against Georgetown. Ollie Morgan also ripped one, while Kellen Farias picked up the win between the pipes.
“We played pretty well and scored some goals,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “It was a good team win.”
On the girls’ side, a 3-0 win, Lynnfield took advantage of home turf with a shutout win. Goal-scorers were Giada Antidormi, Kaylee Barrett (assist), and Ella Pascucci. Ava Damiani and Ava Cook also played well, according to Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont, while Victoria Minor “did a nice job” in net.
“I thought it was probably our best game we’re played so far this season – we played a really great game,” Vermont said. “Jordan Calichman played a tremendous game and our defense played really well. There was good intensity from us.”
GIRLS SOCCER
Lynnfield 3
Essex Tech 0
It wasn’t easy, as Lynnfield didn’t score its final goal until the 78th minute. Damiani struck first in this one, followed by Barrett and Antidormi, who also delivered an assist.
Hannah Doherty played a “great game in the midfield and settled the ball down,” according to Vermont.
“Essex Tech had a good gameplan – they played a defensive game,” he said. “It was a close game all the way until the end. Our girls kept battling and moving the ball around.”
FIELD HOCKEY
Lynnfield 4
Hamilton-Wenham 0
Lynnfield’s first road game of the season was successful as Olivia Sylvester collected four saves to pick up her third consecutive shutout. After a scoreless first quarter, goals were scored by Sophia Morgese (2), Hayden Valiton, and Lauren Mattia, who put the icing on the cake with a perfectly-placed shot into the far-right corner.
FOOTBALL
St. John’s Prep 49
Marshfield 8
Twenty-eight first-quarter points usually do the trick. After last week’s last-second win against Springfield Central in a meeting of powerhouses, St. John’s Prep (2-0) cruised this time around. The Eagles, again helmed by coach Brian St. Pierre, have scored 85 points in two games.
CROSS COUNTRY
Lynnfield’s boys and girls teams dropped outings against Manchester-Essex, but not without positives. The boys were led by Nick DeGennaro (17:44 – 4th), Ritvik Mahajan (18:17 – 5th), Rowan Bayer (18:18 – 6th), Jason Tran (18:30 – 9th), and Andrei Pena (19:07 – 10th). Pacing the girls were Abby Lopez (19:44), Maeve Wertz (22:15), Sophie Kennison (23:38), and Afsana Rabbani (26:56).
“In addition, every other athlete ran a season PR (personal record) today,” said Lynnfield girls coach Liane Cook. “Great way to start the season.”
