Friday at home, the boys tennis Pioneers improved to 3-0 with a 4-1 non-league win over the Big Blue.
“It was an exciting day,” said Lynnfield Coach Joe Dunn.
Senior captain Shlok Kudrimoti cruised to a win at love against Victor Zeissig, 6-0, 6-0. Brady Trippe defeated Zac Goldman in the third singles match, 6-1-6-1.
“Both doubles matches had good competition,” Dunn said.
The first doubles team of Raffi Arkun and Rowan Bayer defeated Julian Elacke and Calvin Tievney, 6-3, 6-4.
“Both teams at first doubles had big serves and forehand shots that were impressive.”
The second doubles team of Andee Shieh and Ritvik Mahajan was down 1-4 to Elijah Stadhauder and Daniel Wolno, but roared back to take the first set, 7-5, then closed out the match in the second set, 6-1.
“They came back strong by hitting with more authority and moving forward to take the net position,” Dunn said.
At first singles, senior captain Shea McCarthy took the first set against Sam Schepens, 6-2, but Schepens leveled the match at one set each with a 6-3 in the second set.
Because the Pioneers had already clinched the team match, McCarthy and Schepens played a 10-point tiebreaker for the third set, won by Schepens, 11-9. Dunn said the match was “great tennis between two great number ones.”
