Monday kicked off Lynnfield’s week in style, with both the boys and girls basketball teams taking down Amesbury.
The boys escaped, 54-44, and upped their record to 7-2. Do-it-all Alex Fleming put on a show with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Zach Pincus (13 points), Madux Iovinelli (12 points, 12 rebounds), and Kelan Cardinal (7 points) also played well.
On the girls’ side, they won, 45-34, despite trailing by six points in the second quarter. Hayden Valiton (4 blocks) led the team in scoring with 15 points, followed by Chloe Grieves, who netted 13 points to go with 20 rebounds.
“We figured things out defensively,” said Lynnfield coach Sue Breen, whose team is 4-7. “We continue to improve and gain confidence. We also continued to rebound well and pulled down 21 offensive rebounds.”

The Pioneers (6-2) showed off their offensive versatility in a home win against Triton. Leading the charge were Cardinal (19 points), Iovinelli (18 points, 12 rebounds), and Fleming (17 points, 12 rebounds).

Despite a 2-0 lead for Lynnfield, with goals coming from Anthony George and Owen Considine (4-on-4), host Triton equalized in the third period before winning in sudden-death overtime.

The James McVann-Louis O’Keefe Memorial Skating Rink in Peabody was home to eight goals Friday evening, and all of them came from the home team. PLNR (7-1-1) clipped Newburyport behind two goals apiece from Ava Louanis and Chloe Gromko. Mia Lava, Ava Buckley, and Daniella White also found the back of the net.
