The Recreation Commission discussed the increasing frustration of residents who are attempting to schedule town pickleball courts.
There are six lined pickleball courts at Lynnfield Middle School and two lined courts at Glen Meadow, but Lynnfield Recreation only manages the courts at Glen Meadow and Newhall Park, Commission Chair Michael Cuddy said.
Since Lynnfield Recreation does not manage the six courts at the middle school, it cannot control reservations there.
Cuddy said he is on the “one-yard line” to finalize the documents to give the department control over all courts and fields that are part of the town’s schools.
Recreation Director Jimmy Olsen said he receives calls from residents asking to reserve pickleball courts, but the town does not have a reservation system in place yet.
Commission members said the issue of scheduling and reserving pickleball courts is an ongoing struggle in Lynnfield and surrounding towns.
“I don’t know how these other communities do it, but it’s definitely a different beast,” Olsen said.
The commission also addressed a scheduling system that was posted on North Shore Pickleball but is unaffiliated with Lynnfield Recreation. The scheduling website has not been used since the commission made it clear to the public that it has no affiliation with the website.
