Preparing Your Garden for Winter with Master Gardener Gretel Anspach

It’s that time of year again! Time to rake, cut back, weed, divide, clear debris, mulch, overwinter, prepare new beds, plant bulbs, and protect your tender evergreens and newer plantings from winter hazards. In other words – another beautiful autumn in New England! Join Master Gardener Gretel Anspach for an informative talk on how to prepare your garden for winter.
Gretel Anspach is a Trustee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, a Lifetime Master Gardener with the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association, and a recently-retired systems engineer for Raytheon. She won the MMGA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Gretel established and maintains a 20,000 square foot food production garden that has provided fresh produce to the Marlboro and Maynard Food Pantries for the last ten years. Her primary interest and focus is always in the science behind horticulture.

Stay Safe & Smart Online! Free Digital Media Literacy Class for Seniors
Want to feel more confident using the internet while still staying safe? Join Lily, a local Lynnfield High School senior, for a fun and informative class designed just for senior citizens!
This class will meet four times: October 2nd, 9th, 23rd (6-7:20 PM) and November 1st(2-3:20).You can stop by for one of the classes, or all of them! This class is part of a Girl Scout Gold Award project!
Please fill out this survey for your input on the lessons of this class and an attendance estimate. There is a paper survey located at the library if you would prefer. You could learn how to:
Spot online scams and avoid fraud, create strong, secure passwords, understand the basics of AI, recognize bias in social media, identify fake news and misinformation or, other topics you can specify in the survey!
Whether you’re online daily or just getting started, this class will give you the tools to stay safe and informed in today’s digital world. No tech experience needed — all are welcome!

Coloring pages, coloring bookmarks and colored pencils will be available at the main Circulation Desk. Can’t stay? No problem, grab your bookmark or coloring sheet and take it home.

Seed Saving Workshop

Join Lynnfield resident and home gardener Jeana Tecci for a hands-on, interactive workshop all about seed saving! Learn the basics of collecting and preserving seeds from both vegetables and flowers through engaging discussion and a live demonstration. Afterwards, you’ll get the chance to take home some flowers to practice harvesting your own seeds.
Come with your questions and curiosity, and leave with seeds—and the knowledge to help you sustain your own garden season after season!
