LTTE: Library Foundation 250 for 250

October 21, 2025 by To The Editor

To the editor:

The Lynnfield Public Library Foundation announced the start of our 250 for 250 fundraising campaign and we ask everyone in town for their help. Every donation is a vote for the long-term security of our library. Please make your support known.

Funds received of any size will have an impact, and as a special incentive, every donation of $250 or more will be recognized on a leaf on the Giving Tree now on display in the library. Leaves are different colors to signify the amount of the gift and have the donors name on them.

The campaign will run until July 4, 2026 in honor of the nation’s semiquincentennial anniversary. Donations made to the foundation will support an endowment that will keep the library vibrant and financially secure for generations to come. We also plan to select a few short-term library improvements for patrons, such as enhancements to the children’s area and seating throughout the building.

We chose the 250 theme not just for the timing. Our founding fathers considered American libraries to be a tool to educate and inform the public, an essential component of our fledgling democracy to maintain a balance of power.

Some members of Ben Franklin’s subscription library, the first in the country, went on to sign the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson donated his personal library to the government, becoming an early donor to the Library of Congress.

Giving through our web site www.lynnfieldplfoundation.org is convenient and secure. Some donors who want to give $250 have made pledges of $21 a month for the next year. Every donation counts! Checks may be sent to The Lynnfield Public Library Foundation, PO Box 243, Lynnfield, MA 01940.

The Lynnfield Public Library Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization that secures a long-term endowment from legacy, planned giving, and grants to support the Lynnfield Public Library’s innovative vision, mission, and values. Through the generosity and shared passion of residents, patrons, and the business community the LPLF will provide services not covered by town taxes, the town budget or the Friends of the Lynnfield Library.

Donations registered before the end of the year allow you to take the tax deduction this year. More importantly, your donation may prompt your neighbors to give as well. Watch the Giving Tree as it fills up with leaves!

Gratefully,

The LPLF Board of Directors:
Jonna Casey
Ann Hadley
Faith Honer-Coakley
Kendall Inglese
Reid Lavoie, Esq.
Karen M. Peluso
