Strong week for Lynnfield wrestling

December 22, 2025 by Mark Aboyoun

Last Wednesday, the Lynnfield-North Reading wrestling team hosted Concord-Carlisle in a dual meet. In a closely contested match, LNR earned a 39-36 victory.

After 13 matches, the score was tied at 36. LNR elected to have Zack Morse bump up a weight class from 215 pounds to 285 to face Concord-Carlisle’s Sevon Hightower, who weighed in at 235.

The match was tied 1-1 before Morse landed a takedown at the buzzer to secure a 4-1 decision. The win sealed the match for LNR and opened the dual meet season on a high note.

Zach Inafuku, Jason Kouyoumdjian, Logan Barstow, Caleb DeSouza, Griffin McCarthy, Lucas Wilkinson, and Morse all won their respective matches.

“Quite a way to start the 2025-26 dual meet season,” LNR head coach Craig Stone said. “We emphasize the importance of TEAM — Together Each Achieves More — and it was never so evident as in tonight’s match. The teams split individual matches, 7-7. What made the difference was our wrestlers earning pin points instead of decisions, and other wrestlers losing by decision only.”

On Friday and Saturday, LNR competed in the Lowell Holiday Tournament. With 85 teams participating, LNR finished 56th, with six wrestlers winning matches and scoring points for the team.

Inafuku went 1-2 in the tournament. Jacob Hullett, competing at 126 pounds, went 2-2 after finishing 0-2 in the same tournament last year. McCarthy went 1-2, David Glynn went 3-2, and Morse went 2-2 for LNR.

“The overall improvement of the wrestlers from last year was quite remarkable,” Stone said. “Hopefully, that is a sign of continued success this season.”
