Title: Assistant Conservation Planner
Assistant Conservation Planner The Town of Lynnfield seeks a full-time, benefitted Assistant Conservation Planner, reporting directly to the Director of Planning & Conservation. This position offers a work environment that favors independent effort, exciting project initiatives and collaboration with accomplished colleagues. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing inspectional field support including site visits, maintenance of related documentation and databases, and assistance with review of applications under the Wetlands Protection Act, Lynnfield Wetlands Protection Bylaw, Subdivisions and Lynnfield Tree Preservation Bylaw.
The position also includes routine monitoring of Town-owned open spaces, and staff cooperation with the very active Open Space & Recreation Working Group, currently working on exciting local trails development projects. JOB OPPORTUNITY
Title: Assistant Mechanic
The Assistant Mechanic, working independently or with others, under the supervision of the Operations Superintendent, maintains, overhauls, repairs, replaces and adjusts engines, pumps, machinery and equipment primarily for the Public Works Department but also for other Town Departments. As needed, the position will also work with other crews in the Department in daily and emergency operations, including snow plowing and sanding. In cases of snow and ice storms or other declared emergencies, this individual will be required to report to work and to work on an overtime basis as needed. This is a skilled position performing repair and maintenance to a wide variety of mechanical equipment. The work includes routine repair, preventive maintenance, and emergency breakdown repair, all of which involves responsibility for making swift, efficient, and workmanlike repairs. Work is usually performed with a minimum of supervision and is checked upon completion through observing performance of machinery and mechanical equipment. The work requires a considerable number of mechanical skills, resourcefulness, aptitude and a considerable knowledge of various types of mechanical equipment and frequent review and consultation with written and online equipment manuals, diagnostic software or verbal consultations with manufacturer service technicians. Work assignments are received from the supervisor orally or in writing. The Assistant Mechanic conducts his own defect diagnosis and makes his own decisions as to causes of malfunction or defects and determines the most appropriate and cost-efficient means to be used to effect repairs.
General Duties:
- Dismantles equipment, entirely or partially, to gain access to defective parts. Makes repairs to defective parts, using bench or hand tools or obtain replacement parts, then re-assembles equipment making all necessary adjustments and conducts equipment operational tests for proper and complete operation in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
- Conducts routine equipment checks of tires, batteries, wipers, and all fluids including oil, grease, hydraulic fluids, transmission fluids, coolant, and washer fluids so that all parts of mechanical equipment remain in proper working condition.
- Determines and corrects mechanical failures. DPW Equipment will include dump trucks, pickup trucks, truck mounted snowplows, salt and material spreaders, school buses, brush chippers, lawn mowers, sidewalk tractors, loaders, backhoes, police cruisers, etc. Repairs and adjusts assorted smaller departmental equipment including stationary pumps, power saws, garage equipment, equipment attachments and the like.
- Tracks and maintains in a secure manner all Fleet equipment, tools, and supplies. Maintains an inventory of supplies and places orders with Supervisor as needed. With approval of the division supervisor the employee seeks out procurement vendors and purchases parts, tools, and equipment as necessary.
- Perform repairs to electrical wiring or equipment; operates welding, cutting and brazing equipment.
- Conducts most repairs at the DPW Garage but may also make repairs on the road when required.
- Dismantles stores, and sets-up seasonal equipment to satisfy seasonal needs.
- Work also may include other department operational tasks including preparing sites for burials, mowing, raking, hand trimming, planting, minor road work, pruning and general housekeeping tasks within the cemeteries. Additionally, it may also include caring of parks by means of mowing, raking, hand cutting, lining out playing fields and emptying trash receptacles.
- Coordinates, cooperates, and works with foremen, operators, laborers, and other personnel, performing all tasks assigned or required in a complete and workmanlike manner. Responsible for compliance with instructions, safety procedures, conformance with accepted trade practices, and compliance with department policies and regulations and government laws and regulations as they pertain to the work. Respond sensitively and constructively to citizen issues.
- Must be available for mandatory overtime during snow, ice, windstorm, or any other urgent or emergency situations, and for any other public works duties required. Work responsibilities include snow removal, plowing and sanding of public ways, municipal and school lots.
- Will be assigned work in all divisions as required; and will conduct other work as directed by the supervisor at or below grade.
