Dear Editor,
As I ride past Lynnfield Common, I am filled with pride and a deep sense of gratitude.
Our town’s Crown Jewel is beautifully adorned in quintessential New England fashion; lush greenery, festive ribbons, and bows adorn our Meeting House, Common, Library, and Water Trough. Granite posts proudly display our town’s rich history, while war memorials honor the brave residents who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
This stunning transformation would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of so many. First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Department of Public Works and the Historical Commission for restoring the Meeting House, the Common, and the Pope Richard House, bringing these precious landmarks back to their full glory. I’m also deeply grateful to Colonel Joe Connell and Veterans’ Services for their efforts in creating a beautiful and meaningful War Memorial. Together, these contributions have shaped welcoming spaces where our community can gather, celebrate, and connect.
I’d also like to recognize the remarkable creativity and dedication of the Village Home & Garden Club, led by the dynamic duo of Carol Schelzi and Sue Cullen, who generously share their design talents in the town center throughout the year. This past Sunday, they enlisted an enthusiastic team of club members—Stephanie Budd, Sue Canty, Anne Donovan, Andrea Griffin, Margaret Holmberg, Georgann Lieb, Janet Lisacki, Elizabeth Martignetti, Nancy McNeill, Kim Regis, Brenda Schelzi, Janet DeCarlo-Staples, and Bootie Stevens—whose helping hands brought their vision to life.
A huge shout-out to college students Max Nastari, Walter Radulski, Nick Grousis, and Alex Fleming, who didn’t hesitate to climb ladders, hang greenery, and haul what seemed like mountains of leaves from the Library to the DPW yard. Thanks to their good spirits – and their can-do attitude – our Common is looking fantastic.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful project. Your hard work and dedication remind us of the strength and spirit of our community.
With Sincere Gratitude,
Ellen Rubbico Crawford
