Work started on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the intersection of Summer and Salem Street. The project is part of the Town of Lynnfield approved Complete Streets Program, focused on improving intersections for vehicular traffic safety as well as pedestrian travel and crossings. Lynnfield has received $495,000 of MassDOT grant funding to complete work at this intersection.
Project upgrades at this intersection have recently been awarded to D&R Contractors. They will be mobilizing to the site tomorrow to begin layout and remove the existing island on Summer Street. The current plan is to return to install the new curbing and sidewalk from the Fire Headquarters new apparatus driveway, along Summer Street and then Salem Street, ending at the current South Station driveway.
Our goal is for this work to be completed prior to winter. New sidewalk and curbing will be installed according to the proposed alignment which narrows the crossing at Summer Street. See the attached conceptual plan for further information. Final paving of this intersection is anticipated to be completed in April of 2026, along with completion of the parking lot at the location of the South Station building scheduled to be demolished this winter. PMA, owner’s Project Manager for the Public Safety Project and BETA Engineering will be working together overseeing project management and engineering on this project.
