To commemorate this country’s 250th anniversary, the Town is planning a celebration next year. Earlier this month, the Lynnfield 250 Celebration Committee was officially appointed by the Select Board. At its Nov. 6 meeting, the Committee finalized its vision and released some details of their plans for the event.
Kirk Mansfield and Joe Connell jointly wrote a press release about the plans. In it they wrote, “It was very important that the town have a celebration to commemorate the 250th birthday of this country. Many citizens of the town wanted to form a group or committee to make sure it was done right, and that our younger generation saw the importance of our history and the significance that the Town of Lynnfield played in the foundation of this great country.”
The finalized plan is based on a vision designed to have people reflect on and celebrate the town’s history, building community spirit and fostering civic pride while looking forward to the future.
They said the Select Board asked them to form a committee to oversee the planning process, to set a budget, identify potential funding sources, and plan a variety of activities in coordination with town departments and local businesses.
Some of those activities have been announced:
On the first night (Friday) Todd Angilly will sing the National Anthem before the town’s revolutionary re-enactors perform. Afterwards the Rotary Club will put on live music in the Lynnfield Common. The Meeting House will be illuminated with an American Flag, which will continue throughout the celebration.
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, there will be a craft fair on the common from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., a pickleball tournament at the Middle School tennis courts from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and a pie eating contest at the Common at 3 p.m.
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, which is also Father’s Day, there will be a 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m. put on by the Lynnfield Athletic Association. The race starts at Town Hall, running down Summer Street before finishing at Town Hall again. There will also be an antique car show and a fire truck parade.
There will be many more events throughout the weekend. Some details are still to be determined. All details are subject to change, and changes will be announced.
As Connell and Mansfield wrote, the point of is “to have a celebration that would make the citizens of this town proud.” The 250 Celebration will be held from June 19-21, 2026.
