Lynnfield band plays at St. Johns Prep fall dance

October 28, 2025 by Chris Carrigan Brolly

Maroon Sunrize, a local high school band made up of Shahaan Zaheer, Andrei Peña, and Nick DeGennarro, played St. John Prep’s fall dance — a stand in for homecoming due to timing with respect to the actual homecoming weekend — last Friday night.

According to Zaheer, this up and coming band — playing a modern mix of old-school rock and modern pop — got its “first” chance to play for their intended audience. In the past, the band has played shows for various fairs, but for this show, the band actually closed the evening in front of a group of their peers.

The band got the gig at the last minute, being offered the spot last Monday. Per Zaheer on how the school found out about them enough to ask: “Word just spreads; it’s very fortunate for us.” Once they were announced, it became a wave of requests from St. John’s Prep students. Zaheer also said, “They knew the songs, so that was really cool.”

Maroon Sunrize (@maroonsunrize on Instagram) is looking for other school events, and events in general, to perform at. The band is planning to record its single “Vile Girl” over the next two weeks.
