Lynnfield’s new Fire HQ struck by car

October 21, 2025 by Chris Carrigan Brolly

The Lynnfield Fire Department headquarters at 1100 Summer St. was struck by a vehicle last Thursday afternoon, just days after the FD began operations in the building.

According to a press release from the Select Board, at approximately 2 p.m., “a privately owned vehicle backed over a curb and struck the left northeast corner” of the new building.

The cause of the accident is currently unclear. Surveillance video of the incident shows a car accelerating backwards into the building without braking. EMS transported no one from the scene.

Though there is internal and external damage, according to the director of Lynnfield DPW, John Scenna, the building is “fully operational,” so services are not expected to be impacted. Though declining to comment about the incident itself, firefighter Anthony Arone said that the planned open house should happen next week as scheduled.

According to the press release, the Town, building contractors, architect, and building inspector are working with a private structural engineer to assess the damage.
