Lynnfield’s football team couldn’t deliver in enemy territory last Friday, falling to Cape Ann League foe Triton, 37-14, and dropping to 1-4.
On the positive side, Lynnfield held an advantage in yards passing (111-0) and each side picked up 10 first downs. But on the downside, Triton rushed for 375 yards, while the Pioneers rushed for 99.
Each side turned the ball over once. Lynnfield committed 10 penalties; Triton nine.
Leading the Pioneers on the ground were Lucas Deraps (43 yards rushing), Dan Lemieux (30 yards rushing, TD), and Matt Tracy (21 yards rushing, TD).
Tracy completed 12-of-21 passes for 107 yards. His favorite target was Luke DiSilvio, who hauled in seven receptions for 73 yards. Lemieux caught two balls for 22 yards.
Jack Tranfaglia recovered a fumble. Lemieux and Tobin Ventolieri each connected on extra-point attempts.
Lynnfield coach Pat Lamusta and company return to Pioneer Stadium this Friday against Newburyport at 6 p.m.

Do-it-all quarterback Christopher Vargas tossed four touchdown passes as St. John’s Prep (5-0) rolled over host BC High. Pierson Scalia caught two touchdowns and St. Mary’s transfer Maxwell Parent rushed for a score.

Marcus Obodai scored the game-winner, followed Garrison Murphy’s insurance goal, and St. John’s Prep blanked BC High on Glatz Field. Matt Droggitis made three key saves and recorded his ninth shutout.

Kaylee Barrett did a little bit of everything as Lynnfield (10-2) escaped Essex Tech on enemy turf. The star Pioneer scored a goal and dished out a pair of assists.
“She’s just a very dynamic player – very skilled with a high soccer IQ. I’m very fortunate to coach her,” said Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont. “We have her, Giada (Antidormi), and Ava Damiani. The three of them are putting some points on the board.”
Hannah Ozanian set the tone with a goal in the fourth minute. Sofia Giardina and Barrett added second-half strikes.
“It was a battle,” Vermont said. “Essex Tech is very organized and made it hard for us – they’re never an easy team to beat.”
According to Vermont, the “biggest game of the year” was at home Tuesday against North Reading beginning at 6 p.m. Results were too late to print.

It was a balanced scoring attack from the Pioneers as Barrett, Antidormi, Ava Ragusa, Hannah Doherty, and Ella Pascucci all scored a goal.
In the center of the action was Damiani, who registered three assists. Victoria Minor was in net and produced five saves.
“It was a good battle. We worked hard for that victory,” Vermont said. “The girls did a nice job.”
FIELD HOCKEY

Lynnfield didn’t need home-field advantage Saturday. The Pioneers blanked Rockport and tucked four goals on the offensive end.
Izzy Fiorentino (2), Mia Capodilupo, and Olivia Ellison scored goals, while Lauren Mattia, Capodilupo, Zoe O’Brien, Sophia Morgese, and Gianna Bridges (first varsity assist) were facilitators.
Bridget McGee made four saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Lynnfield coach Kerri Doherty highlighted strong play from Addie Wolf, Chloe Bergeron, and Grace Allen.

Allen scored the first two goals of the game as Lynnfield (9-1-2) blanked host Essex Tech. Mattia and Nola Maney each recorded two assists, while Cameron Munion netted an unassisted goal. McGee faced one shot and collected her third shutout of the season. Doherty highlighted strong play from midfielder Allison Sweeney and defender Hayden Valiton.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Lynnfield girls competed in Saturday’s Devens Pre-Championship Meet, with coach Liane Cook adding “all the girls had a great racing day.”
With 82 runners in the varsity race, Abby Lopez earned medal-finishing 10th place with a career-best time of 20:11. Maeve Wertz finished 55th, also with a career-best 5K time of 23:24, while Sophie Kennison snagged 68th with a time of 24:44. Bella Giacobbi (24:45) and Sarah Kaufman (27:55) also ran well.
Earlier in the week, the girls defeated Amesbury, 25-31, as “everyone ran really well and ran personal bests,” according to Cook. Lopez won the race with a time of 19:28, while Wertz snagged third and Audrey Janielis (15th) ran a four-minute PR (personal record) with a time of 25:45.
On the boys’ side, Lynnfield fell, 16-44, despite a fifth-place finish from Nick Degennaro (17:17).
