Senate Assistant Majority Leader Joan B. Lovely announced Monday that the communities of the Second Essex District have been awarded funds via the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security ‘s Municipal Road Safety Grant Program.
The award amounts combined to $190,140 in funding for departments across the district, including:
- Beverly: $54,850
- Danvers: $41,348
- Peabody: $52,587
- Salem: $41,355
“Traffic safety is critical to any police department in any community, and it is critical that our departments have the resources they need to find novel and effective approaches to traffic safety,” Lovely said. “I am pleased that these critical funds have been made available to our communities.”
The Municipal Road Safety Grant Program makes federal funds available to provide police departments with substantial flexibility in addressing local traffic safety issues, allowing funding beyond enforcement to include equipment options and developing novel traffic safety programs. The goal is to support traditional enforcement activities and develop new strategies to reduce roadway crashes, injuries, fatalities, and associated economic losses in Massachusetts.
