Weekly roundup: Lopez delivers in Wrentham

Lynnfield’s Abby Lopez delivered a strong performance during Saturday’s MSTCA Bay State Invitational at Wrentham Developmental Center. In her 5,000m race, she recorded a time of 20:13 for 11th place (126 runners).

CROSS COUNTRY

St. John’s Prep defeated Malden Catholic, 19-44, at Pine Banks Park (5K) in Malden. Top finishers for The Prep were Dimitri Profis (1st – 18:24), Colton Friedlander (3rd), Lukas Cleary (4th), and Dylan Power (5th).

La Salle Academy 20

This one was never in doubt. The St. John’s Prep Eagles (4-0) remained perfect, invading Cimini Field with a 53-20 win against La Salle Academy Saturday afternoon. The Prep’s ground game was lethal, with Jordan Toribio and Maxwell Parent securing big offensive days. Through the air, quarterback Chris Vargas tossed a pair of touchdowns to go with nearly 200 yards, with Riley Selvais being his favorite receiver.

The Prep took part in Saturday’s Kicks for Cancer tournament at Concord-Carlisle High. Ryan King scored for the Eagles, from Garrison Murphy, while goalie Matt Droggitis “had a monster game,” according to coach Dave Crowell, with 15 saves in defeat.

Ollie Morgan scored for Lynnfield, with an assist coming from Rocco Scenna. The Pioneers upped their record to 5-1-3.

Lauren Mattia scored in the first quarter and Nola Maney added another in the second to lift Lynnfield. Bridget McGee made her first varsity start in goal, recording six saves and her first shutout, while facing one penalty corner.

St. John’s Prep improved to 7-1 with a clipping of the Falcons. Jack Carew (35) and Cam Coppen (36) led the Eagles.
