Work on the Public Safety Renovation and Reconstruction Project is moving swiftly along. The project, representing years of work and planning, broke ground in April 2024.
According to a press release from last April, town hall will be receiving accessibility updates to make it accessible to all residents.
The same press release also said the fire department headquarters will have updated facilities for equipment storage and decontamination space, and adequate accommodations for both male and female firefighters which the previous headquarters lacked.
Gene Covino of the Lynnfield Finance Committee said during a meeting of the committee that the new facility is scheduled to be occupied on Oct. 6. He also said that there will be public meeting space in the building, adding to Lynnfield’s availability to host committee meetings and similar events.
According to police chief Nick Secatore, the renovated police station will now have arrestee processing contained on one level, full locker rooms for employees, dedicated evidence and processing areas, and a technology room; none of these were present in the previous police headquarters.
Secatore also said that the move-in to the renovated facility is planned for shortly after New Years.
Secatore finished his statement saying “The Town of Lynnfield has always been good to the public safety officials,” and that he appreciates the support of the community over this transition.
