At last, after a Week 1 bye, Lynnfield’s varsity football team was back in action Friday. That said, the Pioneers (0-1) met their match, 41-6, against host Shawsheen Valley Vocational Tech.
Lynnfield, again helmed by coach Pat Lamusta, played a much better second half in this one, but it wasn’t enough.
Pioneer positives included Matt Tracy finding Dan Lemieux and James Pasquale for chunk-yardage plays, Ben Gazit holding his own on the defensive line, and Luke DiSilvio impressing in the secondary, “playing tight coverage against one of their top receivers,” according to Lamusta.
Lynnfield recorded seven first downs, just 4 rushing yards, committed six penalties, and fumbled the ball.
Tracy (172 yards) completed 10 of 18 passes, while Lemieux hauled in five balls for 122 yards and a touchdown.
The Pioneers host Wakefield (1-0) Friday at 6 p.m.
