This year's Wakefield-Lynnfield PMC Kids Ride will be held at MarketStreet on Sept. 14. (Stephanie Richman)

MarketStreet to host Kids Ride for cancer research

September 8, 2025 by Amanda Lurey

The Wakefield-Lynnfield PMC Kids Ride is coming back for its second year of fundraising for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Sunday, Sept. 14 at MarketStreet.

Stephanie Richman has been participating in the Pan Mass Challenge for 12 years, and she said she organized the first Wakefield-Lynnfield PMC Kids Ride last year because there were no Kids Rides close to her.

Richman added that her dad had ridden in PMC for 15 years, and her whole family has been impacted by cancer. She also emphasized that she graduated high school with Reid Sacco, who died from cancer during Richman’s sophomore year of college in 2005.

She added that she feels MarketStreet will be a great location for this event because of all the business and community engagement.

This year’s Kids Ride is in honor of Leo, Wakefield-Lynnfield PMC Kids Ride’s brave and inspiring 5-year-old Pedal Partner, who is currently undergoing treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Leo is a curious kid who loves Legos and trains, and he dreams of being a police officer or helicopter pilot when he grows up.

Every dollar raised supports vital cancer research and compassionate care at Dana-Farber, bringing us closer to a cure.

There are two participation options for this Kids Ride. The first is in person via the Loop-de-Loop Route.

This year’s ride will feature one big route that’s perfect for all ages and abilities – whether you’re just learning to ride or already zooming along! The course is at MarketStreet, and riders can go around as many times as they’d like. There will also be an after party with local business participation and activities for all.

The ride isn’t about how far or how fast a participant goes – it’s about coming together, having fun and riding to support cancer research and care at Dana-Farber. Every pedal helps bring hope and healing to kids and families who need it most.

The other participation option is to be a virtual rider. Virtual riders are those who would prefer to ride on their own and not in person at the event. Virtual riders who raise $50 or more will receive an official PMC Kids Rides T-shirt and water bottle at the end of September for fall rides. Virtual riders have no registration fee or fundraising commitment.

The event is for kids aged 2-12 and runs from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Sept. 14. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.; the opening ceremonies take place at 9:20 a.m. before the ride begins at 9:30 a.m.

There is a $20 registration fee and a $40 required fundraising commitment per registered attendee. For participants who raise $500 or more, they will receive a prize.
