Hilltop Steakhouse co-founder’s wife, Irene Giuffrida, passes away at 97

July 29, 2025 by Elizabeth Della Piana

Irene Giuffrida, the wife of Hilltop Steakhouse founder Frank Giuffrida, and longtime Lynnfield resident, died Wednesday at the age of 97.

Giuffrida worked as a hostess and manager at the iconic restaurant, “where her grace and hospitality helped define the restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere,” according to her obituary.

The idea for the restaurant came about when she and her late husband went on their honeymoon, a six-week trip through Europe. Frank Giuffrida was inspired during that trip to open his own restaurant. The Hilltop Steakhouse would open its doors in 1961 and create a lasting legacy.

Irene Giuffrida was a devoted mother and wife. She found joy in “shopping for the perfect outfit, hosting gatherings that turned into treasured family traditions, and being present for every important moment in her children and grandchildren’s lives.”

She is survived by her daughters and grandchildren.

“On National Gorgeous Grandma Day, our radiant mother and grandmother Irene took her final bow as gracefully as she lived. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Friends and family are invited to share their stories and photos on Irene’s memorial page — a tribute to her enduring spirit and the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate to know her,” the family wrote.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made in Irene Giuffrida’s memory to the Kaplan Family Hospice House.
