As Republic Services workers continue mobilization amid contract disputes, towns statewide are preparing contingency plans for service to be assured in communities.
Lynnfield posted updates to the trash and recycling schedule after the trash collector strikes started July 1, aiming to avoid disruption in this “difficult time,” they said in a statement.
“Our trash and recycling contractor, Republic Services, is experiencing a labor strike that is disrupting normal collection,” they added.
Curbside collection of trash will be assured as per the schedule announced on their website, with a one-day delay.
As negotiations hit an impasse, municipal officials, including Lynnfield Town Administrator Robert Dolan, addressed a letter to the Republic Services Leadership Team, urging “all parties to return to the negotiating table in good faith to reach a fair and timely resolution.
“Reliable curbside waste and recycling collection is an essential public service, and this disruption has had significant ripple effects throughout our communities,” the letter stated.
Whilst ensuring Municipal support for “the collective bargaining process,” the continued blockage in operations has also led to a lack of communication with community leaders, delays in deploying backup resources, and potential Public Health emergencies, the letter stated.
