The Lynnfield Center Water District (LCWD) reminds residents that restrictions are at Level 3.
Level 3 water restrictions mean outdoor lawn and garden watering is only allowed starting at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays through 6 a.m. the following day and is prohibited at all other times. Residents are allowed to use hand-held hoses and watering cans while this restriction is in place throughout the balance of the week if needed.
With a significant heat wave forecast and dry conditions with very high temperatures predicted, it is imperative that we adhere to these restrictions as a community so that these restrictions don’t have to be increased.
LCWD Director John Scenna recently reported that “Our system is ready to perform at the highest levels possible however, we simply still don’t have the ability to consistently sustain high daily usage over a long window of time, especially with overnight spikes in demand from watering lawns. We don’t have that infrastructure in place yet.”
According to Scenna, “This trend will place a strain on infrastructure, water supply and storage capacity and subsequently will create issues with fire suppression, system pressures and daily operations. We are a utility company, and our main goal is to produce and supply water. However, now, our production is limited by the infrastructure that is in place. Together we need to stay ahead of these very impactful issues by regulating our outdoor water use, especially in situations like forecasted for next week.”
Scenna feels that “adjustments in watering cycles” and cooperation from customers is how best to manage the demand v. supply struggle over the summer months. Be mindful of the situation and make the effort to abide by adjusting watering cycles, intervals, and durations.
LCWD is in construction of the new greensand and PFAS filter plant at Glen Drive pumping station; has completed water transmission piping improvements to connect the LCWD system with the Wakefield MWRA water source; and is substantially complete with construction of the interconnection vault that will transfer said water to the LCWD. The District is now seeking approval of all permitting conditions with state and local agencies to join the MWRA including passage of the order with the State legislature. Superintendent Scenna testified on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 before the House Committee urging them to not only approve the request but to do so “in a timely manner so that water can made available to the District during the anticipated window of high demand this summer.”
