To the editor:
The Lynnfield Public Library Board of Trustees are deeply disheartened by the incident preceding the LHS graduation ceremony. We applaud the swift actions taken by our town leaders in addressing this incident, and the elected officials in Lynnfield who have spoken up to condemn the unacceptable racist comments that preceded the graduation of 139 LHS seniors. The Board of Trustees and Lynnfield Public Library staff stand firm in our belief that racism has no place in Lynnfield.
The vision statement from the Lynnfield Public Library, developed through community surveys, states that “Our Library will facilitate connections by being a safe, welcoming and inclusive cultural center where people will gather and share ideas, interests and knowledge.” Everyone in our local community is always welcome to join us at the library, which has numerous resources to learn more about anti-racism, as well as an educational introduction to Juneteenth created in partnership with Lynnfield for Love.
As Trustees we firmly believe that knowledge is power. We will work with town leaders and Library staff to ensure that Lynnfield is always a welcoming and inclusive town. Let’s work and learn together to strengthen our community. We hope to see you soon at one of the many free library programs.
Sincerely,
