WESTFIELD — Lynnfield’s Eli Mendese delivered a strong MIAA Division 5 championship meet, held at Alumni Field on the campus of Westfield State University, as his Pioneer boys (21 points) placed 12th out of 37 teams.
Mendese finished second in the pentathlon (school-record 2,889 points), sixth in javelin (142-11), and seventh in high jump (6-0). Nick Kelter placed second in the triple jump (45-3), which also broke a school record.
Kelter and Mendese will compete in the Meet of Champions, which takes place Thursday through Saturday at Fitchburg State University.
Brendan Reilly (200m – 23.63), Dillon Reilly (200m – 23.63; 100m – 11.87), Jesse Dorman (100m – 11.94), and Dan Lemieux (long jump – 20-3.75) also competed, but didn’t place. The 4×100 relay team of Brendan Reilly, Dillon Reilly, Lemieux, and Dorman finished in 45.28, while the 4×400 relay team of Dorman, Kelter, Lemieux, and Kevin Keyes finished in 3:39.68.
On the girls’ side, Aislin McCormack ran the 400mh in 1:13.88 (18th), while Emma Greenleaf, Ava Freni, Ava Willoughby, and Sofia Giardina ran the 4×100 relay in 56.44 (21st). Abby Lopez recorded an 89-01 in javelin (13th), while Shealyn (Shea) Moore placed 12th in the pole vault (7-06.00). Audrey Manning finished 21st in triple jump (31-06.25), while Greenleaf ran the 100mh prelim in 17.72.
