ROUNDUP: Mendese receives Athlete of the Year, ties school record

Lynnfield’s track and field teams competed in Saturday’s Cape Ann League Championship at Triton High.

The boys finished with 46 points – good for eighth overall. Eli Mendese was named Athlete of the Year in the Baker Division of the Cape Ann League. Over the weekend, he tied a school record with a 6-6 high jump (1st).

Nick Kelter broke a school record with a 44-6.25 triple jump (2nd) and placed third in long jump (20-1). The 4x100m relay team of Brendan Reilly, Dillon Reilly, Jesse Dorman, and Dan Lemieux finished third in 45.60.

On the girls’ side, Abby Lopez ran the 2-mile in 11:36.14 and captured second place. She also placed sixth in javelin (85-07). Shealyn (Shea) Moore finished fourth in the pole vault (7-06.00).

Paige Martino, Vicky McCrann, and Kami Khiat served up singles wins as the Cape Ann League-winning Pioneers upped their record to 15-2. Ella Hayman/Kathleen Brown and Emma Wagon/Victoria Clancy were also victorious on enemy courts.

BOYS LACROSSE

The Eagles (17-1) concluded the regular season in style with a double-digit win at Glatz Field in Danvers. Luke Kelly (4 goals, assist) and Cam McCarthy (3 goals, assist) led the offense, while Sam Wilmot and Ryan DeLucia shined defensively. Mattheus Du Plessis made five saves, while Will Crawford won 17 of 19 face-offs.

Boston College High 4

St. John’s Prep (16-1) looked as if it was postseason ready, doubling up BC High to win its sixth consecutive Catholic Conference title. K​​evin Correa, Ryan DeLucia, Sam Wilmot and goalie Mattheus Du Plessis (9 S) led a dominant defensive effort, while Josh Barton (2 G, A), Ryan McCarthy (2 G), Madden McGowan (G, A), and Beckett Lee (G, A) guided the offense.
