Four-win week on the diamond

May 20, 2025 by Joey Barrett

Lynnfield’s baseball team, helmed by Coach John O’Brien, was on a roll this past week, securing wins against Rockport, Amesbury, Pentucket, and Essex Tech. Two were on the road, while two were in Lynnfield.

The week began Tuesday, May 13 when Lynnfield went into Rockport and left with a 2-0 win. It was the first and only meeting between the teams this spring. Two days later, host Lynnfield took down Amesbury, 5-4.

Saturday was action-packed as Lynnfield escaped Pentucket in a 10-7 final. It wasn’t always pretty, but the Pioneers overcame a 7-2 deficit with an eight-run sixth inning.

Dylan Nguyen went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and was the spark, leading off the sixth with a single and later blasting a two-run double to break a 7-7 tie. He came around to score on the same play after an error.

Nick Groussis pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief to earn the save.

Tyler Adamo (2-for-3, double), Groussis (2-for-2), Madux Iovinelli (2-for-4, two doubles), and Drew George (2-for-4) had multiple-hit games for Lynnfield.

Monday’s 11-6 win against Essex Tech – in enemy territory – was the icing on the weekly cake.

That will be it until this weekend’s Brendan Grant Baseball Tournament. Lynnfield takes on Burlington at 4:30 p.m. Friday to kick things off. Saturday’s game will either be against Reading Memorial or Belmont (TBD).
