More games. More dominance.
Lynnfield’s baseball team – ranked No. 1 in Tuesday’s MIAA’s Division 4 power rankings with an 11-3 record – went 2-0 this past week with wins against North Reading and Essex Tech.
Tuesday, the Pioneers took down host North Reading, 6-2, behind Luke DiSilvio, who pitched seven innings and allowed just four hits and one walk to go with seven strikeouts.
DiSilvio helped his own cause with a solo home run, which turned out to be the game-winner.
Charlie Morgan batted 4-for-4 with two RBI and made “two terrific catches in center field,” according to Coach John O’Brien.
Drew George hit a two-run homer in the second inning.
“The kids answered the bell today,” O’Brien said.
Days earlier on Thursday, May 8, the team was off and running with a Division 4 state tournament berth. In a 9-5 home victory against Essex Tech, the Pioneers secured lucky win No. 10.
“We were up, 9-1, and they came back in the last inning with four more runs,” O’Brien said. “The pitching was pretty good, but there’s always room for improvement.”
Tyler Adamo pitched five innings, while DiSilvio entered in relief and “shut them down in the seventh inning,” as said by O’Brien. Walter Radulski led the offense with three hits, Nick Groussis added a couple more, and Morgan hit a single to go with “a great catch in the outfield to save a couple of runs,” according to O’Brien.
The Pioneers are followed in the power rankings by No. 2 Pittsfield (12-4) and No. 3 Hamilton-Wenham (11-3). Lynnfield visited Rockport Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. with results too late to print.
