It was a picture-perfect Monday for Lynnfield seniors, as the softball team celebrated Senior Day and a 12-1 win against Boston Latin Academy.
The Pioneers honored their four captains, Morgan Hubbard (Tufts University), Kaila George (Wake Forest University), Julia Corrente (George Washington University), and Libby Considine (University of Tampa).
An early home run from Olivia Kelter set the tone for the Pioneers in the first inning. Lynnfield led, 3-1, going into the bottom of the sixth inning before the hosts broke the game wide open and scored nine runs.
George, Hubbard and Faith Angelo each had two hits, combining to drive in seven.
SOFTBALL

Manchester-Essex 3
The Pioneers (6-6) returned to .500 with a two-run triumph against Manchester-Essex. Gia Gagnon pitched a complete-game one-hitter, allowing just one earned run and four walks to go with seven strikeouts.
Morgan Hubbard was 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs scored, and two RBI, while Angelina O’Hara and Gagnon had two hits. Chloe McEwen and Angelo also compiled hits.

For the 42nd consecutive year, Lynnfield qualified for the state tournament.
First singles Paige Martino and second singles Lily Alves each defeated their opponents in straight sets. Third singles Kami Khiat won 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, both the first and second teams won with comfort. Kathleen Brown/Christine Cho at first doubles and Vicky McCrann/Emma Wagon at second didn’t drop a set.

Behind Kelan Cardinal (5 goals, 2 assists), John Powers (4 goals), and Mike Murphy (goal, 5 assists), Lynnfield escaped Ipswich at Pioneer Stadium. Ben Pimentel made 11 saves, while Owen Considine scooped up two ground balls. Lynnfield won 20 of 25 face-offs.

Cam McCarthy’s four goals and assist lifted The Prep (14-1) to a victory on Glatz Field. Helping out offensively were Jackson Quigley (3 goals, 2 assists), Madden McGowan (2 goals, assist), and Beckett Lee (goal, 4 assists). Chase Kenyon won 15 of 20 face-offs, while Nick Schibli played well defensively.

The Prep (13-1) spread out the offensive wealth en route to a four-goal win against host Malden Catholic. Goals were scored by Thomas Randall, Quigley, Mac Crawford, Cam McCarthy, Sam Kelly, and Nolan Convey. Kenyon won 7 of 11 face-offs, while Sam Pruell made three key saves.
