Pillings Pond Foundation announces tax-exempt status

April 29, 2025 by For The Weekly News

The Pillings Pond Foundation, Inc. has announced it has officially received its 501(c)(3) non-profit designation (EIN 33-1640320) from the Internal Revenue Service. This exciting news means that membership and any donations made to the foundation are now tax-deductible.

The foundation invites all residents to become members. Annual household membership is $150, which directly supports the foundation’s vital mission to preserve and protect this cherished local treasure. The foundation also welcomes and deeply appreciates donations from supporters who wish to contribute further to these efforts.

Meet the Board:

The Pillings Pond Foundation is led by a dedicated group of local residents committed to the well-being of the Pond. Its chief officers are founder and President Antonio Sordillo, Clerk  Bryan Last, Treasurer Bryce Foote, and board member Chris DeCarlo.

To ensure balanced decision-making, the foundation is currently seeking to add a fifth board member. Interested individuals or those wishing to make a nomination are encouraged to reach out to pillingspondlynnfield@gmail.com.

Looking Ahead: The Goals for Pillings Pond:

The Pillings Pond Foundation is focused on both immediate and long-term initiatives to benefit the Pond and the community:

  •   Short-term: A primary goal is to raise capital to supplement the crucial algae bloom treatments performed by the Lynnfield Conservation Commission. Given the commission’s current budget constraints and potential town-wide financial challenges, community support is more critical than ever.
  •   Mid-term: The foundation aims to enhance Rotary Park, the main public access point to the pond. Proposed plans include the construction of a fishing pier designed to provide residents of all ages with safe and enjoyable access to the Pond’s shoreline.
  •   Long-term: The foundation will actively collaborate with local and state officials to identify and secure water quality improvement grants. A key long-term objective is to fund the long-overdue dredging of the western half of Pillings Pond, a project that was unfortunately halted in the 1990s.

Support through membership or donation makes a significant difference in ensuring the health and enjoyment of this valuable community asset for years to come.

Please note checks should be mailed to: Pillings Pond Foundation, 30 Maywood Road, Lynnfield, MA 01940.
