The Select Board has appointed John Michalski to the Conservation Commission, filling the seat vacated by long-serving member Janice Solomon. Michalski brings a strong commitment to the environment, a background in urban forestry, and hands-on experience in wetland restoration, forest management, and public land conservation.
His work history includes broad conservation-focused experience at the Boston Harbor Islands State Park and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), where he developed a deeper understanding of conservation strategies, habitat restoration, and the importance of preserving local ecosystems.
Beyond his professional experience, he has spent the past several years volunteering as a member of the Lynnfield Historical Commission. This work has allowed him to build strong community relationships and to hone his skills in preservation and stewardship. He believes this has provided him a unique perspective on balancing environmental goals with local history and community interests – a beneficial perspective for “developing strategies that protect our town’s environment while also fostering public awareness and participation in conservation initiatives”.
Michalski and his family have lived in Lynnfield for 15 years. He enjoys spending his free time gardening, kayaking, and hiking.
