ROUNDUP: Lynnfield tennis stays perfect

The Pioneers defeated North Reading to earn its sixth win of the season to stay undefeated. First singles Shea McCarthy took down Parker Lee 6-1, 6-1. In third singles, Matt Reinold defeated Raffi Toby 6-2, 6-1. 

In the second singles match, Shlok Kidrimoti lost a heartbreaker in a tie-breaker to Kellen Tiberii, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-10.

In the first doubles match, Lynnfield’s Rowan Bayer and John Pastore only lost two games across two sets (6-0, 6-2). Second doubles duo Ritvik Mahajan and Sameera Murphy battled back after dropping the second set to help Lynnfield win (6-1, 1-6, 6-4).

McCarthy took the first singles match at love, 6-0, 6-0. Kudrimoti (6-0, 6-2) and Brady Trippe (6-1, 6-2) followed suit at second and third singles, respectively. Raffi Arkun and Reinhold prevailed at first doubles, 6-1, 6-0, and Mahajan and Andee Shieh took the second doubles match, 6-0, 6-2.

“It was a good match today.” Lynnfield Coach Joe Dunn, Sr. said. “The young players are definitely stepping up to the challenge.”

In a match described by Dunn as “exciting and well-played,” the second doubles team of Emile Coumans and Ash Mahajan picked up their first win of the season, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. The first doubles team of Arkun and Reinold completed the doubles sweep, 6-3, 6-3.

McCarthy took the first singles match at love, 6-0, 6-0 and Kudrimoti took the second singles match, 6-1, 6-0. Rowan Bayer lost a close one at third singles, 5-7, 3-6.

In a “tough one for the Pioneers,” according to Coach Hector Longo, Lynnfield (1-1) had no answer for the Hawks. The Pioneers committed six errors and connected on just five hits. Morgan Hubbard and Angelina O’Hara blasted two-run homers to highlight the offense.

Lynnfield’s offense couldn’t crack Georgetown as the Pioneers only registered two hits. Both Morgan Hubbard (double) and Angelina O’Hara (single) registered hits for Lynnfield.

The Eagles started the season hot with their fourth straight win after they took care of business at Glatz Field in Danvers.. Offensive leaders were Josh Haarmann (2 goals, assist) and Mac Crawford (2 goals), while Bo Minogue, Jack Weissenberger, and Nate Bernarducci shined defensively. Will Crawford won 16-of-19 face-offs, while Max Putney made five saves between the pipes.

Behind Owen Considine’s six-goal performance, Lynnfield took down Ipswich in a closely-contested showdown. Paul Daley (2 goals), Kelan Cardinal (2 assists), and Owen Doherty also found the back of the net, while netminder Ben Pimentel saved 13 shots.

TRACK AND FIELD

St. John’s Prep improved to 4-0 on the season after defeating Xaverian (110-26) and Malden Catholic (135-1) on Monday. 

Daniel Padley took home first place in the 400-meter race with a time of 50.25. Henry McDonnell ran the two-mile in 10:02. 

In the field, Tyson Stroope and Andrew Beterucci both completed a 6’4” jump in the high jump. Anthony Ragosa threw a 51’7” in the shot put, while Kye McClory threw a 157’ in the discus to fuel the Eagles.
