April 1, 2025 by Joey Barrett

Lynnfield’s boys lacrosse team took on Hamilton-Wenham, 16-10, Sunday evening and despite allowing 10 second-half goals, a large lead kept the Pioneers (1-1) victorious on enemy turf. They led by four goals after one quarter and 9-0 at halftime.

Owen Doherty (5 goals) and Owen Considine (4) led Lynnfield’s charge, while Mike Murphy (3), Paul Daley (2), Kelan Cardinal (goal), and Johnny Powers (goal) rounded out the scoring. Goalie Ben Pimentel made six saves.

Kelan Cardinal of the Pioneers scored four goals to go with an assist, but it wasn’t enough in Lynnfield’s season-opener. Melrose led, 10-2, at halftime before the “defense really stepped up to make it a game in the second half,” according to Lynnfield Coach Pat Lamusta.

Powers, Considine, and Murphy also scored.

“The new young defense stepped up to cut the lead – Farias Schumacher, Driscoll Mancinelli,” Lamusta said. “And big saves by Ben Pimentel.”

Behind Josh Haarmann (4 goals) and Cam McCarthy (3), plus some outstanding defense from Jack Weissenburger and Ryan DeLucia, The Prep picked up a season-opening victory Saturday. Also contributing were Luke Kelly (2 goals, assist), Madden McGowan (goal), Kevin Correa (goal), Will Crawford (13 face-off wins), and Max Putney (team-leading 5 saves).
