Former Lynnfield High standout Chloe Shapleigh, a senior on the Endicott College softball team in Beverly, did something that only 15 other student-athletes have accomplished in NCAA Division 3 history, according to the 2024 NCAA D3 Softball Record Book, and that is hit two home runs in the same inning. Shapleigh accomplished the feat in the Gulls' 16-7 win against Ripon College in the second game of a doubleheader at Hancock Field in Clermont, Fla. The senior designated player led off the second inning with an inside-the-park homer down the right-field line, then closed out the Gulls' scoring with a 3-run run bomb to center to put Endicott on top, 15-0. A 2024 All-Commonwealth Coastal Conference First Team All-Star (now the Conference of New England) and NFCA All-Region II Second Team honoree, Shapleigh finished the day 3-for-8 with seven RBI, two runs, and a walk.
