The Lynnfield Art Guild (Lynnfield Arts) is proud to announce that local artist Leslie Scott-Lysan is its featured artist for two months beginning March 1. Her work is showcased on the Lynnfield Arts homepage and at www.lynnfieldarts.org/leslie-scott-lysan, where visitors can read about her background and view photographs of her artwork.
Scott-Lysan draws inspiration from color and light, whether painting en plein air outdoors or working in her studio on architecture, cityscapes, or abstract creations. Her work reflects her spirituality and the gratitude she feels while creating and being in nature.
She works with oil paints, cold wax, acrylics, mixed media, and photography. Her latest explorations focus on mixed media cold wax and oil paint abstracts. Many of her paintings are impressionistic en plein air pieces created on-site across New England, featuring rich paintbrush and palette knife strokes. Her numerous awards and exhibits include a recent 32-painting solo show at the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests Conservation Center in Concord, New Hampshire.
Awards and National Recognitions:
- North Shore Arts Association Janice Turner Memorial Award for Excellence in Oil Painting
- “Bridging the Merrimac,” 2022 Exhibit New England, Gloucester, Massachusetts
- 20th Frances N. Roddy Open Competition at Concord Art (Massachusetts)
- “Fort Point Channel Landmark: Boston Wharf Company” oil painting juried into the national competition

Scott-Lysan’s paintings have also been featured in juried art shows with the Cambridge Art Association, Newburyport Art Association, Artist Group of Charlestown, Reading Art Association, North Shore Art Association, and Wakefield Fine Art Exhibition, among others. She has exhibited with the New Hampshire Plein Air group and in venues such as the Bernerhoff Inn and Bartlett Inn in Bartlett, New Hampshire, and the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort in North Conway, New Hampshire.
A 2006 vacation to Monhegan Island, Maine, inspired Scott-Lysan’s return to art after a 30-year hiatus. Watching the island’s artists at work, she purchased watercolor pencils, paper, and brushes to sketch a rusted white iron bucket filled with bright red geraniums at the Monhegan House.
A few years later, she took painting classes with Wakefield, Massachusetts, artist Mary Taggart. As she grew more confident, she studied under master pastel artist and national juried oil painter Aline Ordman, oil and acrylic painter Emily Passman, natural science illustrator and watercolor painter Sandy McDermott, contemporary nature painter Elizabeth Awalt, contemporary painter and colorist Martha Wakefield, digital photographer and printmaker Barbara Ford Doyle, painter Ron Krouk, encaustic and cold wax artist Debra Claffey, and cold wax artist Jane Henry Parsons.
Scott-Lysan’s career in marketing and public relations allowed her to explore creativity through writing and visual communication. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication arts and sciences from Bridgewater State University and pursued master-level studies in marketing at Northeastern University, as well as graphic design courses at Massachusetts College of Art. She is also a music lover, concertgoer, singer, and frequent visitor to theater performances and art museums.
A resident of Wakefield, Massachusetts, Scott-Lysan is available for commissions. Her work can be found at www.lesliescott-lysan.com, by email at ljscotty@aol.com, and on social media:
