To the editor:
I am writing to express my strong support for Superintendent Tom Geary and the majority of the Lynnfield School Committee. As a former teacher and mother of four elementary-aged children, I was disturbed by the treatment of Superintendent Geary at the February 11th School Committee meeting by one member. Committee member Jamie Hayman’s dismissive comments and public statement that he does not trust the Superintendent were inappropriate and do not reflect the reputation that Mr. Geary has among parents in this district.
In December 2023, LPS was at one of its lowest points for teacher morale under then-Superintendent Vogel, and when she went on leave, the School Committee at the time called upon Mr. Geary, out of a variety of options, to step in. Parents like myself who are engaged with the district have watched as Mr. Geary has stabilized our district, providing crucial support to teachers, students, and families. He is accessible, engaged in the community, and focused on strengthening teaching and learning. His four goals, which are focused on citizenship, budget, technology, and curriculum, reflect a clear student-centered focus.
I appreciate Mr. Geary and the majority of our Committee for refusing to engage in politically motivated distractions and for continuing to advocate for our students and support our educators to create the high-quality educational experience Lynnfield is known for.
As a former educator, I am impressed with the way Mr. Geary has strengthened the leadership team and reinforced a culture of learning and collaboration across the district. The difference between December 2023 and today is remarkable, and anyone reflecting on the change will see that Mr. Geary was the right choice to lead our schools. I am grateful for his steady and dedicated leadership.
