Owen Considine rips a shot toward the net. (Spenser Hasak - File)

ROUNDUP: Up-and-down week for Lynnfield icemen

February 11, 2025 by Joey Barrett

Enemy ice was no problem for Lynnfield’s boys hockey team, which escaped Amesbury, 2-1, after Owen Considine’s two-goal performance on Saturday. He tucked the game’s first goal, then went home with the game-winning strike in the third period. Earlier in the week, however, the Pioneers fell to Gloucester, 3-2, at Talbot Rink. The Fishermen reeled in a sudden-death overtime win. CJ Anderson and Anthony Calla scored for the Pioneers, but it wasn’t enough against Gloucester’s pair of power-play goals.

BOYS HOCKEY

Catholic Memorial 3
St. John’s Prep 0

The Prep made its way to Tate Rink in West Point, New York for a matchup with traditional archrival Catholic Memorial, which escaped with a shutout win after a late empty-netter. Catholic Memorial scored twice in the second period to put pressure on the Eagles.

St. John’s Prep 4
Xaverian 0

A rivalry game was underway inside of the Essex Sports Center, but St. John’s Prep made quick work of Xaverian. Ryan DeLucia registered a hat-trick, while netminder AJ Farese picked up a 30-save shutout. The Prep clinched a share of the Catholic Conference title.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Newburyport 65
Lynnfield 52

The Pioneers (12-5) couldn’t stop Newburyport (17-1) Monday night. Alex Fleming poured in 18 points, but it wasn’t enough. Iain McCarthy, Madux Iovinelli, and Zach Pincus all scored 10 points apiece in defeat.

Lynnfield 79
Essex Tech 29

Senior Night was a success for Lynnfield (12-4), which buried Essex Tech by 50 points. Leading the way were Fleming (30 points) and Iovinelli (14).

GIRLS HOCKEY

Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading 1
Algonquin Regional 0

Freshman Sydney Zizza ripped the game’s only goal – with less than a minute remaining, no less – to send PLNR home victorious last Wednesday, Feb. 5. Chloe Gromko and Ava Buckley dished out assists, while Alyse Mutti played well between the pipes.
