ROUNDUP: Boys basketball squad secures tournament spot

The state tournament came calling for Lynnfield’s boys basketball team (10-4), which secured its spot with a double-digit home win Friday night. Lynnfield took down Cape Ann League foe North Reading, 59-40, for lucky win No. 10. Leading the Pioneers were Alex Fleming (20 points, 12 rebounds), Zach Pincus (16 points, 4 threes), and Madux Iovinelli (15 points, 14 rebounds).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lynnfield 71
Ipswich 43

Lynnfield cruised to its 11th win of the season. The Pioneers received double-doubles from Fleming (19 points, 10 rebounds) and Iovinelli (14 points, 10 rebounds). Pincus chipped in with 11 points, while Kelan Cardinal kept the offense moving with 10 assists.

BOYS HOCKEY

Newburyport 3
Lynnfield 0

The visiting Clippers scored first on Saturday before putting the game away with two more goals in the third period.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading 5
Longmeadow 2

Behind two goals apiece from Chloe Gromko and Ava Buckley, PLNR avenged a loss from earlier this season against Longmeadow. Eleni Spack joined the fun with a goal and two assists, while Alexa Pepper also recorded a helper.
