A longstanding tradition at Lynnfield High has been revived, much to the merriment of 324 high school students who danced the night away Saturday at the Homecoming Dance.
The dance was the brainchild of the junior class’ LHS Student Council members Sam Curley, Alex Schmit, Nandana Nishanth, Sonia Kumar, Chloe Cieslewicz, Gianna Micieli, Jacob Book, Celisha Diaz, and was assisted by class advisors Dr. Nicole Hawes and Leane Manderson.
Money raised will go to the Class of 2026 to help keep costs down for Junior and Senior Prom and Senior Week.
“This event has been in the works since last school year, and the council has worked very hard to bring this experience to life for their classmates,” volunteer Maria Micieli said.
The council members set up a vote with the student body to decide on the dance’s theme. Disco and The Great Gatsby were the top two choices considered by the council, which selected The Great Gatsby, in part because the book had been read by students in their English class, thereby inspiring the theme. According to Micieli, the council actually leaked a fake theme to gain interest in the event.
The cafeteria was transformed into a Great Gatsby-themed atmosphere with a red carpet, dance floor, DJ and photo booth. The council is thankful for the support of the many sponsors who helped make the dance a success.
