Lynnfield kept its one-goal lead into the fourth quarter. Then ,at the six-minute mark, Cameron Munion scored a goal from a Sophie Morgese assist. Essex Tech 0
The Pioneers escaped Essex Tech in a Cape Ann League thriller that saw Fiorentino tuck the game-winning goal from Alves and Marotta just two minutes into the first quarter.
It was all the No. 5 Pioneers needed to secure a victory against a Division 1, highly-skilled Essex Tech team that ranks No. 24. MacDonald (6 saves) stood strong between the pipes.
“Defensively, Chloe Gromko stayed poised, executing with some big stops – not only in the backfield, but also, breaking up two Essex Tech corners as the flier on the defensive corner unit,” said Lynnfield coach Kerri Doherty. “Alves, in typical fashion, was a force in the backfield, making some clutch clears out to the side with under two minutes remaining to preserve the win.”
