NEWBURYPORT — Due to rather unorthodox scheduling, Lynnfield’s football team made its way to Newburyport for the second year in a row for a date with the Clippers, as opposed to the usual home-and-away rotation.
Well, home advantage or not, it was no problem Friday night.
The Pioneers cruised to a 44-21 victory in Cape Ann League action, upping their record to 5-1 after falling to North Attleborough in Week 1.
Do-it-all quarterback Tyler Adamo continued his stellar season, throwing for 301 yards and five touchdowns. Jesse Dorman caught five receptions that resulted in 143 yards and a pair of scores, while wideout Madux Iovinelli also hauled in a pair of touchdowns. Dan Lemieux joined the aerial party, going home with a 49-yard touchdown from Adamo.
Jared Bernabei rushed eight times for 83 yards and a touchdown, while Massimo Lograsso converted five of six extra-point attempts alongside a 43-yard field goal.
On the defensive end, Andrew Lombardi picked up a timely interception after Newburyport marched its way to the red zone. The Pioneers outscored Newburyport, 20-7, in the second half. The second quarter was, frankly, action-packed with a combined 31 points (24-14 at halftime).
Lynnfield hits the road again on Friday, as kickoff against Manchester-Essex is slated for 6:30 p.m.
