Lynnfield’s field hockey team faced Rockport Monday morning and took care of business, 4-0, with goalie Lauren MacDonald recording her second consecutive shutout. The game was scoreless at halftime, but after a few adjustments, Lynnfield scored three goals in the third quarter to take a commanding lead.
First, it was Cameron Munion getting on the scoresheet with an assist from Sophie Morgese. A minute later, Lauren Mattia doubled Lynnfield’s lead, thanks to assists by Lily Alves and Gia Marotta.
With 2:43 remaining in the third quarter, Mia Capodilupo (in her first varsity start) scored her first career goal. Marotta found the scoresheet in the fourth from a Taylor Valiton assist.

This one was tied at halftime in a “true battle of great field hockey,” according to coach Kerri Doherty. In the end, her Pioneers pulled one out after Taylor Valiton scored the game-winning goal 12:14 into the third quarter (Izzy Fiorentino assist).
Doherty credited Gia Marotta, Lauren Mattia, and Lauren MacDonald (7 saves) for strong play.
“And defensively, we held solid, led by Chloe Gromko, Lily Alves, and Hayden Valiton,” Doherty said.

No home field, no problem for Lynnfield, which doubled up Manchester-Essex in a close one.
“A very good win for us. We were down, 1-0, at the half,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “Great games for all the defenders, especially Charlie Morgan.”
Joel Anthony and Matt Reinold tucked second-half goals to win it for the Pioneers.

St. John’s Shrewsbury 14
No matter who you are or what league you’re in, 36 points in one half usually does the trick.
Despite playing in enemy territory, such was the case for St. John’s Prep against St. John’s Shrewsbury on Saturday. Freshman gunslinger Chris Vargas continued his stellar season with three more touchdown passes, while Merrick Barlow caught two of them. Jordan Toribio rushed to the promised land for the Eagles, who upped their record to 5-0.

The Eagles wrapped up the regular season with a 13-match winning streak after dropping their season-opener. They will compete in the Division 1 North Sectional Tournament at Far Corner Golf Course on Wednesday. Zach Enners (36), Tripp Hollister (37), and Jack Carew (38) led The Prep.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Lynnfield boys (4-1) hosted a tough Hamilton-Wenham team on Senior Day. The Pioneers ended up losing, 17-43, against one of the top programs in the state. Despite the loss, there was a fair share of personal records.
Once again, Lynnfield was led by Shea McCarthy, who ran a personal best of 15:59 (4th). He was followed by Dylan Nguyen (PR 16:43, 7th), Nick DeGennaro (17:58, 9th), Liam Gardner (18:11, 11th), and Ashkrit Mahajan (18:16, 12th).
Lynnfield’s girls lost, 17-45, to Hamilton-Wenham, but had “great performances,” according to coach Liane Cook. The top five were Gabby Bottaro (20:19), Kaila George (21:15), Caitlin Buoniconti (21:24), Abby Lopez (22:08), and Shea Moore (22:22).
