The Lynnfield High School Music Department hosted a food drive at its most recent Coffeehouse on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
The department hosts the Coffeehouse four times a year, LHS Band Director/Music Teacher Eric Blackman said. It features performances ranging from solo instrumentals, to singers, to rock bands.
The event began in 1997 with the Chorus Director, Doug Hodgkins, Blackman said. It has since become a “staple” in the LHS music learning experience.
The most recent Coffeehouse featured more than 20 performances and had students come to help setup and run the event, he said.
He said he helped coordinate the event and performed a trumpet solo with Hodgkins on piano to commemorate his first Coffeehouse.
The event doubled as a food drive for Haven From Hunger and it collected enough food to fill the trunk of a car, Blackman said.
“This event is a great opportunity for students to perform the music of their choice for a supportive audience,” he said. “The event also allows our student leaders to take part in serving their community through the power of music and performance.”
