Lynnfield’s field hockey team ran into a Sutton-covered wall on Saturday, falling by a score of 2-0 at Pioneer Stadium.
“We came out really strong. We had a great first half and it was tied at halftime,” said Lynnfield coach Kerri Doherty. “We were outplaying them and outcornering them – really dominating.”
But in the third quarter, Sutton found the back of the net off a corner. The visitors added some insurance minutes later.
“We held them in the fourth. However, it was an inability for us to bounce back,” Doherty said. “Once we got behind, it was tough to rally… We kind of defeated ourselves, essentially.”
Gia Marotta, Taylor Valiton, Chloe Gromko, and Lauren Mattia played well in the loss, according to Doherty.
Now, a three-game week against Rockport, North Andover, and Newburyport.
“We came off a high, which was a 2-0 win against Chelmsford,” Doherty said. “Moving forward, we’re going to start playing three times a week. If we can just play for all four quarters, that will be really important. We’re moving the ball really well and we have a lot of speed. I think, when we play our game, we’re unstoppable, but it’s just inconsistent at this time.”
