Saint Maria Goretti Church in Lynnfield formally dedicated its new Saint Michael statue following its mass on Sunday, Sept. 29.
The statue dedication was the culmination of more than a year of work, Dick Dalton said.
Dalton said he approached Reverend Paul Ritt and asked if he and his family could plant a tree in honor of their son Michael Dalton, who died from a drug overdose in 2019.
After coordinating with other parishes, Dick Dalton said an anonymous donor donated a statue of St. Michael for the dedication.
He said the statute is not only dedicated to his son, but to everyone who struggles with addiction and mental health.
“We were, at the end of the day, extremely happy that it’s serving a much larger base,” Dick Dalton said.
He added the dedication ceremony was attended by friends and family and it helps his family honor Michael Dalton’s memory.
