LYNNFIELD — Lynnfield’s girls soccer team delivered a statement win at Pioneer Stadium, 8-0, against Pentucket on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Talk about a well-rounded showing. Lynnfield brought tough defense, an explosive offense, and excellent goalkeeping to hold the opposition scoreless.
“Overall, I thought it was great,” said Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont. “We had been working on trying to move the ball and we had good ball movement and good finishing, so that’s what we want and what we need.”
In the first half, Bella Carroll started the evening with a strike, followed by Bella Sykes taking it herself and to give the Pioneers a 2-0 cushion through just 10 minutes.
Giada Antidormi and Hannah Ozanian doubled up the scoreboard with two more. Better yet, while the offense was firing on all cylinders, goalkeeper Victoria Minor didn’t face a whole lot, but delivered when needed.
A handful of players stood out to Vermont – even some who were tasting their first piece of varsity action.
“Alex Schmidt got her first varsity goal today, which was great. I liked the first goal – the ball that Bella Caroll headed in from Bella Sykes, who had a great game,” Vermont said. “Ava Damiani was moving well, Victoria Minor made a great save down on our end. Early in the game, midfielders moved it well. Emma Rose. Clara Caulfield. We moved it well. There’s a lot of players moving the ball well, like Kaylee Barrett and Giada Antidormi, so it was a good game.”
Come the second half, it was no different. The hosts put the finishing touches on a dominant performance. From a corner kick right out of halftime, Rose put one in that bounced over the keeper’s head.
Carroll found twine again, with an excellent pass coming from Damani. From there, Schmidt entered the action, scoring her first varsity goal to polish off the eight-piece.
