To the editor:
On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, we will proudly dedicate our new Veterans Memorial on South Common Street. Here’s an update on the progress that’s been made.
Work began in January with the building of forms and the pouring of the concrete wall. In July, we watched Tony Tropeano and his talented crew install the brick veneer, as well as the six military crests and the Lynnfield logo on the wall. Next came the installation of the pavers that fill the large oval, the bricks in the sidewalks, the flagpole sleeve, and the stones surrounding the flagpole area. They also installed the conduit and wiring.
On Friday, Sept. 20, local company Iron Tree graciously donated their labor and installed the flagpole. On Monday, Sept. 23, the granite plates, benches, and pedestal from PG Memorials were delivered. The installers also arrived. By the end of Friday, Sept. 27, the installation of the names, war descriptions, and respective maps, as well as the benches and pedestal, were all completed. Additionally, during this same week, the electrician began the installation of the plugs and lighting for the memorial and the flag.
In next week’s update, I will discuss our dedication ceremony, including our invited guests and featured speakers. Stay tuned!
